Be Cool Pharmaceutics LLC
Be Cool Pharmaceutics LLC, is a startup biotech company located in Fairbanks Alaska, working to develop therapies to induce a hibernation-like state in humans for remote emergency care and space travel.
Be Cool Pharmaceutics is seeking two interns to aid in the development of a drug formulation that shows promise for inducing a hibernation-like state. Work includes but is not limited to:
- Assisting in small animal surgical procedures
- Creating graphics to illustrate experimental protocols and principle of operation.
- Data management and maintenance of electronic records.
- Statistical analysis and graphical representation of data.
- Assisting with behavioral observations to assess impact on cognitive performance.
- Assisting with microscopy to explore biomarkers of hibernation in hibernating mammals.
A successful applicant will:
- have an interest in biomedical research and space travel.
- have good quantitative and graphical skills. Preference for applicants with prior experience in Excel, GraphPad Prism and BioRender.
- possess strong communication skills and be a natural problem solver.
- have knowledge of chemical and biochemical principles.
- have the ability to work on multiple tasks independently and communicate findings and recommendations to the team.
Applicants should have at least Junior standing with a background in chemistry or biochemistry. Students must be enrolled in an Alaskan institute of higher education to qualify. Internships will be conducted in Fairbanks, Alaska, in space provided by the University of Alaska Fairbanks to allow for research under UAF’s animal care assurance on file with the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare. Stipend is $8,200. No housing or transportation is provided.

Alaska Industry Internships are open to students who meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Enrolled at an Alaskan institution of higher education during the period of the award.
- Good academic standing
- U.S. Citizen
