AERONAUTICS RESEARCH
AIAA’s design competition is an international event sponsored by major industry leaders such as Raytheon, Boeing and SpaceX. This year, the competition will be held in Wichita, Kansas the 19-22 of April, 2018. I anticipate 6-10 students from UAF will travel to the competition this year. To compete, UAF must design and manufacture a fixed wing RC aircraft to certain design standards set by the DBF rules committee. During our project, our team must be able to communicate effectively and delegate workloads responsibly in order to utilize our limited resources and time. As such, our team will be working as a whole to determine our configuration and mission goals, before breaking into groups to manufacture the unique components of our aircraft. This project will give students exposure to real-life engineering problems, as well as spark innovative thinking and teach important skills that are essential in any project that NASA supports in the future.
