Making a Camera to Detect Free Electrons

SPACE TECHNOLOGY

Anthony Melkomukov

This proposal intends to create an Electron Imaging Camera (EIC), a relatively inexpensive
and easy to produce device capable of determining the sources of free electrons within its field of view. The creation of EIC is useful to NASA in accordance with TX 8.3.1 (Field and Particle Detectors) and TX 13.2.7 (Test Instruments and Sensors).

This is in support of the Alaska Cubesat Auroral Plasma Spectrometer (ACAPS), a current
UAF NASA grant to analyze the aurora borealis caused by high energy electrons entering the
atmosphere. EIC can be used to identify potential sources of interference within a given testing environment. To my knowledge, no such device exists on an easily accessible scale. The creation of one would assist any fields of study that use electron beams for testing or otherwise, not just ACAPS.
