SPACE TECHNOLOGY
This is an ongoing project (which has been awarded previously) to develop a Multipole Plasma Trap (MPT) computational/experimental research program. The first part of the project, which was completed during the summer of 2019, was to develop a Solidworks (CAD software) model of the MPT. The second part, which I am still currently working on, and on which I presented a poster at a physics conference in October of 2019, is to develop a COMSOL Multiphysics (simulation software) model. An example of COMSOL output that I produced is shown in the figure below, a simulation of the voltage applied to MPT electrodes plus linear octupole that we intend to build and test experimentally. This current proposal is for the third part of the project, which is to build the apparatus. Once the simulation model is fully developed, it will help us predict the electrical performance of the MPT structure and RF power supply, and will be used to optimize the experimental design and guide construction and testing of the experimental prototype.
