I recently had an opportunity to work at Langley Research Center, under the NASA Aeronautics Academy. I worked on two separate projects, the first was testing an alternate position, navigation, and timing system for UAV operations in urban environments. The system used local beacons to trilaterate the position of the receiver. In urban environments GPS accuracy is degraded due to reflections so there is a need for more accurate systems in these environments. I was responsible for developing code to interface and record data from the receiver. The other project I was involved with was bringing last-mile connectivity to front-line responders in disaster situations, namely wildfires. The idea was to have multiple UAVs providing internet access around them and then continuing that connection to another UAV some distance away. On this project, I was responsible for the payload design for flight testing the system
