Eklutna Glacier Internship

HUMAN EXPLORATION AND OPERATIONS | SCIENCE

Knowledge of inflow patterns into Eklutna Lake guides management decisions on equitable water allocation between hydropower, drinking water, and downstream salmon needs.

This monitoring program directly aligns with several NASA goals. One of the Science Mission Directorate goals seeks “to develop a scientific understanding of Earth's system and its response to natural or human-induced changes.” Additionally, the question “How and why are Earth’s
climate and environment changing?” is addressed within this project. This work also aligns with NASA’s Earth science research objective to understand the “interactions among the atmosphere, oceans, land and ecosystems, including humans.” In addition, this work aligns with the Office of STEM Engagement objective to “Build a diverse future STEM workforce by engaging students in authentic learning experiences.”
