Completed Code and Testing of Autonomous Systems

SPACE TECHNOLOGY

The Command and Data Handling subsystem of the Alaska Research Cubesat 2 is in late-stage development. The CDH must autonomously monitor the satellite health and to manage faults because 98% of the time communication with the satellite will not be possible. The CDH will act autonomously to monitor satellite health (NASA Taxonomy 10.1.2) and fault response (NASA Taxonomy 10.2.6). Automatic testing for verification and validation of the satellite using Ball Aerospace COSMOS will be developed in order to meet NASA’s interest in testing, verification and validation of autonomous systems (10.4.1, 10.4.2).

This proposal for this coming school year seeks to complete the CDH flight code, as well as set up automated testing of the satellite. This meets NASA’s interest in TX-10 and TX-13 (testing of autonomous systems) by working on development of a semi-autonomous satellite (TX-10), as well as developing the testing method of said satellite.
