Prince William Sound College (PWSC) plans to offer PHYS AIOI class which introduces liberal arts students to the theory, methods and techniques of physics, the most basic of the sciences. This class aims to provide broad exposure to many aspects of physics. As part of the project PWSC faculty will also pass the curriculum onto K-12 teachers so that this curriculum can be added into the curriculum for multiple grade levels.
This project aligns with the Exploration Systems Mission Directorate (ESMD) by helping students learn in a hands-on manner the STEM content that must be mastered so that students are introduced to engineering and sciences early in their education. The project intends to make students more aware of careers in STEM fields, so as to increase the talent pool that NASA and other space-oriented agencies will require to solve various engineering problems.
This project also meets all three of NASA's Education Strategic Coordination Framework outcomes by attracting students to STEM by offering high-interest courses that integrate STEM instruction and engineering principles with programming principles and practices. This project also incorporates NASA's Education Outcomes and Objectives by giving PWSC faculty competency-building educational opportunities.
