HUMAN EXPLORATION AND OPERATIONS
This project will allow third grade students to apply STEM concepts within a variety of content areas at The Watershed School. The curriculum for this project is based on a unit where students will learn about the food they eat from the past and the present. This project will introduce students to the science behind food preservation related to salmon, as well as engineering concepts regarding salmon preservation structures. Students will also learn technology implementations to the salmon preservation processes of the past and present. Math concepts will be essential in engineering these structures. With a place-based approach, students will make real life connections with STEM. Place-based education immerses students in local heritage, cultures, landscapes, opportunities and experiences. As a result, STEM will be implemented within a variety of content areas in a meaningful, useful, and allied manner, so that students will understand that math is an important and integrated tool.
