SCIENCE
The James Web Space Telescope (JWST) is set to launch in December of 2022 and
with its unparalleled sensitivity and resolution, usher in a new paradigm of astrophysical imaging
and research. This project will begin a multi-year effort analyzing newly acquired JWST data
which will contribute to the cause of demystifying the origin of AGN, their connection to, and
co-evolution of the central Super Massive Black Hole (SMBH) and the greater galactic structure.
Over the summer of 2022, research will be conducted which will develop reliable data reduction
and processing methodologies and begin analysis of the first wave of available near-infrared
JWST data peering into the central galactic engine. Following this work, I will develop expertise
in processing, analyzing, and interpretation of JWST observations of AGN. This work will
contribute to the overall research infrastructure, science and technical capabilities in Alaska as it
will expand the expertise and capabilities needed for the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA)
team to continue to pursue cutting-edge studies in the field with future observations obtained
with JWST and other world-class observatories across the electromagnetic spectrum.
